The Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement program was developed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration with input from the International Association of Chiefs of Police Technical Advisory Panel and the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police. ARIDE was created to handle the gap in training between the Standardized Field Sobriety Testing and the Drug Evaluation and Classification programs. This course utilizes curriculum developed by NHTSA and the IACP to train officers to show Standardized Field Sobriety Testing.

All students have to be SFST skilled and they should be proficient in information, administration and interpretation of the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests.
